Q: What is the standard turnaround time on a job?
A: We like to finish most standard projects within one week’s time. However, some projects encounter obstacles that may require extensions.
Q: Will I get to see a proof of the project before it goes to press?
A: When a client brings in a new job, or an existing job where changes apply, we always give them a proof prior to printing the project.
Q: Why does my logo printed in full color not match my logo printed in PMS color?
A: This happens because PMS printing uses only one color of ink, whereas full color printing mixes four colors of ink. By mixing the four inks together, you are not getting true PMS color. The best way to avoid inconsistency is to print with five colors, keeping your logo in its PMS color.
Q: What is the advantage to using a PDF-formatted file?
A: A PDF file can only be viewed, it cannot be altered. So, by using a PDF-formatted file, it minimizes your chances of font or re-flow issues. This is especially crucial when crossing platforms from a PC to a Macintosh or visa versa.
Q: Will the cost of my project increase if I add bleeds?
A: Yes, because when printing a bleed, we are required to extend the ink out further on the sheet of paper. This forces us to print on a larger sheet of paper, increasing the cost of the project.
Q: I have some photos I took with a digital camera; can I use those in my next newsletter?
A: Yes, there are just a few guidelines you should follow to help in processing your photos to their full potential:
1) the photos should be saved in EPS or TIFF format, and
2) DPI should be set at 300. When you save a photo in JPEG format, the DPI is only set to 72, which decreases the quality of the photo. As a result, these photos tend to be blurry and jagged.
